Whippany Park Football Comes Up Short in Post Season Consolation Game

CRESSKILL, NJ – Things got really ugly on Halloween night for the Whippany Park High School Football team in a post-season consolation game. The game on Thursday night saw Cresskill (6-3) overrun Whippany Park (3-6) in a 28-14 victory.

Cresskill scored first in the first quarter when William Cusick scored for a 1 yard rush and two-point conversion passing from Jake Lewin to Nick Giella extending the score to 8-0. After that, Whippany Park answered back in the second quarter with a 2-yard rush that allowed it to tie the game 8-8.

Cresskill responded immediately though, with Joe Connelly bulling his way in from the six and Hugo Tsurushima adding the extra point to put the team up 15-8. Whippany Park answered with a 1-yard rushing touchdown before the halftime but failed to make the two-point conversion and was leading 15-14.

The third quarter for Cresskill saw the offense come to life, with Lewin connecting at least twice with Cusick. The first one was on a 22-yard pass while the second time he delivered one on an 11yard touchdown pass. Cresskill was able to extend their lead to 28-14 after the second kick went astray but this second kick put them in a comfortable position with a lead going into the last 15 minutes.

Lacking any more points in the final quarter, Cresskill played a tough defense that sealed the victory with a 28-14 score.
